Dr Nolene Byrne is a Senior Lecturer at Deakin University, with a joint position within School of Engineering and the Institute for Frontier Materials. Dr Byrne completed her PhD studies in Materials Engineering at Monash University in 2007.
After spending 2.5 years in America at Arizona State University as a postdoctoral researcher Dr Byrne returned to Australia. In 2010 she was awarded an ARC Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship to develop novel nanostructured materials. Dr Byrne’s research and teaching interests centre around understanding process/structure/property relationships in polymers.
Her particular research interests include developing sustainable approaches to processing and developing natural polymers and fibres for a variety of applications, including the recycling of textile material to the development of new carbon fibre precursors. Dr Byrne currently serves as a committee member for the Victorian Branch of Materials Australia.
